John Overton High School Serves Delvin Downs Students

The newly renovated John Overton High School in Nashville TN provides top-quality education for students residing in the Delvin Downs community. The school is located on a 14-acre campus along Franklin Road in Nashville. It serves Metro Nashville Public School students in grades 9-12.

School culture at JOHS is a unique mix of family atmosphere and cosmopolitan vibe. As an accredited Cambridge international school, JOHS hosts a large percentage of students from other countries. More than 46 languages are spoken at JOHS. Translators and interpreters are on staff. Social workers and support teams are also available. Students can earn college credits and will receive an international-level education.

JOHS aims to give its 1,900 students a well-rounded experience that builds knowledge, character and life skills. Offerings include college preparation, career training, social support, ESL courses, special interest classes, advanced academics, tutoring services and SAT/ACT test prep. The school’s Career Academy programs provide real-world work experience in areas such as engineering, health careers and IT. Students can participate in performing arts, sports and numerous other extracurricular activities.

The entire school was recently renovated from top to bottom in a $40 million, two-year project. It has a new library, new cafeteria, upgraded band and theater areas, new restrooms, an enlarged parking area, a secure entry vestibule, new desks for students and teachers, a community meeting room and improved athletic facilities.

School hours are 7:05-2:05. Students have four 90-minute classes each day, made up of eight classes per semester. Each student has a half-hour lunch period.

Parental involvement is important at JOHS. A Family Portal allows parents or guardians to check online to see what homework the student has, how they’ve done on tests and exams, notes from teachers and more.
